Dear Friend of Task Force,

Would it surprise you to know, you are an “owner” – an owner of something big and unique?   You share ownership of the Montana Spay/Neuter Task Force Project S.P.O.T (Stop Pet Overpopulation Today) mission.  With your own hands, your heart, your material support, and enthusiasm you helped make better the lives of 35,000 Montana dogs and cats (since 1996) and the lives of their families and neighbors.

Would it surprise you to know because of ownership by you and other Montanans, many Montana city councils, tribal councils and county commissions signed on to the project, finally “Doing Something About All those Dogs – and all those Cats!

Because you showed them, that indeed, something could be done!  In 2005, these Montana officials provided $54,000 toward the solution you helped create.  In 2006, $55,000.  In 2007?

The Task Force has difficulty raising funds to demonstrate to communities that there is a perfect and immediate solution to pet overpopulation.  Humane societies in Montana are building with bricks and mortar, raising millions for more and bigger animal shelters.  The Task Force simply empties shelters.  It is harder to visualize statistics -- easier to visit and view bricks and mortar.

Many Montana communities still need a “Community Cares” Task Force Pet Care Event, the centerpiece of which is a no cost, large-volume, demonstration spay/neuter assistance clinic with all the community helping.  The biggest event of the year, in Great Falls/Cascade County, resulted in the spay/neuter of 1,354 local dogs and cats with surgery costs totaling $27,500.  Task Force still needs funds to help communities that already have “owners” like you and officials like yours to continue the “Community Cares” program you learned with the Task Force.

Your hands, your heart made it official – you are an “owner” of the solution.  Now won’t you solidify ownership by becoming a member of the Task Force?

On behalf of the Task Force, WELCOME!

Statistics – not bricks and mortar
Task Force makes an immediate Difference!

  • Wolf Point:  Dog impounds down to 15 per month from 63 average after
    4 events.
  • Livingston:  down 48% admittance one month after Task Force event; 2nd through 6th month down 33%.
  • Billings Shelter cost savings:  approximately $142,000 after 3 Task Force events in two years.

Reasons why the whole community should care

        • Research suggests:  humans have an almost biologic need for the companionship of animals.
        • Cycle of Violence:  Research Reports the tie between animal abuse/child abuse/domestic violence/violence.
        • Dog bites:  number one cause of injury to children - 80% of those bites are from intact adult male dogs.
        • Of the top 3 complaints to local officials, one is dog/cat nuisance
        • When there are too many cats/dogs:  pets casually acquired risk being casually treated.
